In response to calls for increased support and visibility during the annual Association of Performing Arts Professionals conference, Showcases is a platform for artists to network and share repertory highlights.

About Heidi Latsky Dance:
Heidi Latsky Dance (HLD) has created ground-breaking work for multiple casts of highly talented disabled and non-disabled dancers. With a manifesto that is dedicated to disrupting space, dismantling normalcy, and challenging contemporary views on the definition of beauty, HLD’s significant repertory - including the critically-acclaimed ‘GIMP’ and ‘ON DISPLAY’ – have been seen by audiences across the USA and abroad.

HLD, founded in 2001, became a physically integrated dance company in 2006 after a collaboration with visual artist and amputee Lisa Bufano. Outreach and advocacy have always been an integral part of the company’s mission. HLD continues to push boundaries by illuminating non-apparent disability and reshaping contemporary dance’s relationship to inclusivity.

Performance venues have included Lincoln Center, The Whitney Museum, American Dance Festival, The Kennedy Center, Peak Performances, National Portrait Gallery, Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, Dadafest Liverpool, Crossing Borders Festival Dusseldorf, and the International Festival of Arts & Ideas at Yale University.

About Ballez:
Ballez was founded in 2011 by genderqueer choreographer Katy Pyle. By centering the experiences of trans, non-binary and genderqueer dancers in practice and creation, Ballez demands that the form of ballet embrace the vitality of positive, inclusive change. Over its thirteen years of existence, Ballez has grown to include a broad community of dancers, audiences and change-makers, gathering around classes, performances and conversations. Ballez has produced four original, full-length story-ballets: The Firebird, a Ballez (2013, Danspace Project), Sleeping Beauty & the Beast (2016, La MaMa), Giselle of Loneliness (2021, The Joyce Theater) and Travesty Doll Play Ballez (after Coppélia) (2024, Chelsea Factory). Learn more at ballez.org.

Travesty Doll Play Ballez (after Coppélia) continues Ballez’s mission to radically reimagine the ballet canon. Coppélia was originally performed as a travesty ballet in 1870 in Paris. Ballez brings that his/her/theirstory to light with an entirely trans and non-binary cast, making clear that gender variance and transgression have long been a part of ballet, and that Ballez dancers are its rightful inheritors. This new story ballet focuses on the relationship between the Dolls and their Doll-Maker, meditating on cycles of abuse between teachers and students, on control and freedom, on fake and real, and on perpetually being forced to automate the performance of gender in order to belong... ultimately, these dolls play with mainstream notions of gender until they fall apart.
