Chelsea Factory welcomed three cohorts of resident artists across artistic disciplines—from composers to filmmakers to playwrights—who were at inflection points in their careers.
Artists received a range of resources customized to their needs, such as financial support, rehearsal and performance space, production support, and opportunities for group and individualized professional development.
Chelsea Factory took a holistic approach to the selection process, which prioritized artists who are:
- New York City-based
- From historically excluded communities
- At transformational inflection points in their careers
- Have a need unique to Chelsea Factory’s space
- Aligned with Chelsea Factory’s values of integrity, transparency, flexibility, and accountability

“The work that we are creating here is shifting…it is forcing us to take a look at the work we [Soles of Duende] have created so far and decide where we want to go next. To have a space like Chelsea Factory give us the freedom and trust for ‘that thing’ to unfold without fear is a gift.”
—Brinda Guha, Soles of Duende
“This creative time at Chelsea Factory is huge. It feels like coming home when we walk into the room.”
—Gregory Richardson, Music from the Sole
